Hongqiao Early Childhood Education
Hi! My name is Cheryl Proctor and I am looking forward to meeting everyone and joining our team as ECE Principal this academic year. I began my teaching career in Canada with my first international post in Vietnam at the Australian International School (AIS). This was where I discovered the International Baccalaureate (IB), the wonders of South East Asia, and the richness of an international school community. In my most recent role, I joined GEMS World Academy Dubai as the Elementary Principal, where I have guided teams to redefine an outstanding program and align with the IB PYP enhancements. I believe children need a strong sense of self, ownership of their learning, and opportunities to be creative, resilient, and appreciative of ideas and cultures that differ from their own. I am curious, confident, and excited about this next adventure, and ready to explore China, live in Shanghai, and discover our SCIS community.
Welcome to SCIS! I have been at the ECE campus since 2012 and am looking forward to another year at SCIS working with our youngest learners and their families. For over 20 years, I have taught in the United States as well as international schools in South America, Europe, and the Middle East before moving to Shanghai. While I have had the pleasure and privilege of working in many schools at various grade levels, none have offered the unique experience of our ECE campus. In addition to my extensive classroom experience, I hold a Reading Specialist, a Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education and an ESL certification. I love learning and am always looking for ways to improve my understanding of child development, the ways in which children learn and the most current teaching practices. I am excited to be returning to my role as the ECE Campus Vice Principal and believe my years of education and experience will enable me to continue to support our students and faculty! When I am not working, I enjoy reading, running, cycling and practicing yoga. My weekends are spent exploring Shanghai and all this great city has to offer.

Ni hao SCIS! I am thrilled to be part of your community and cannot wait for the year ahead. Born and raised on the beautiful south shore of eastern Long Island in New York, I grew up swimming in the ocean and kayaking in the wetland canals. I played the cello for many years – I even traveled the world touring with an orchestra – and I am passionate about exploring new foods and restaurants, cooking, the outdoors, music, and immersing myself in new cultures. I received my BA in Linguistics from SUNY Stony Brook and my MA in Childhood and Special Education from Touro College. My teaching career thus far has been in New York City charter schools where I engaged with incredible children, families, and colleagues, and learned a lot about education reform and the many challenges encountered by urban schools and communities. Each school year I look forward to creating a safe and nurturing space where learning is fun and relationship building is key. I’m looking forward to a year of growth for myself and my class of Dragons!

Originally from New York, I earned a B.S. in Early Childhood Education and Special Education with a major concentration in Studio Art from the University of Vermont. While in University I was trained at a Reggio Emilia lab school which fostered my love of play and inquiry-based learning as well as incorporating open and natural materials into everyday classroom experiences. After University I taught for many years in New York City where I earned my MSEd in Early Childhood Education and Special Education from Hunter College. After two additional years as a Special Educator in Vermont, I decided to go on an adventure and move to China for a teaching position in September 2017. I look forward to making new connections and memories this year as my roots continue to deepen here in Asia.
Hello! I am from Minneapolis, Minnesota. Since then, I have completed my Master’s in Education from St. Catherine University in St. Paul, while teaching as a Pre-Kindergarten teacher in the largest public district in Minnesota. Outside of teaching, I like to experience the outdoors, read books about different places, travel anywhere I can, and meet new people along the way. I am excited and honored to be a part of the SCIS community! This is going to be a GREAT year!

My name is Tiffany Levy. I am originally from Texas. I was fortunate enough to have travelled around the USA in my youth, which made my passion for travel and diversity blossom. I moved to Virginia and received my Bachelor’s in Education from Virginia Wesleyan College. I love teaching because it is a two-way road; being able to teach curious minds and learning to see the world from their perspective. After returning to Texas, I taught elementary grades for three years. My desire to see the world grew, leading me to accept my first teaching abroad position in Morocco. While there, I taught Preschool for three years. My next stop was in Guatemala, where I taught PreK. I then returned to the US and taught Kindergarten in Florida. My journey has brought me to SCIS Early Childhood Campus, and I look forward to learning about this beautiful school and its community!

I am thrilled to continue to be part of this amazing school community. I earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in early childhood education with a teaching certificate in primary education in my native Bogotá (Colombia), and a master’s degree in TESL in Vermont, USA. I lived in Canada since the winter of 2001 until my arrival to Shanghai in the summer of 2005. During that time in Quebec I taught preschool, kindergarten, and K- adult ESOL and Spanish. During my teaching years in Colombia, I taught mostly first grade, but also 4th and 5th grade science and language arts, and also high school French. Over these many years I have never stopped feeling the outmost respect and wonder for the unlimited capacity that children have to learn. I am fully committed to providing an enriched, loving environment in the classroom that allows them to discover their particular learning styles and to develop their academic and personal potential. When not in the classroom, I enjoy travelling and sharing my Latin heritage.
I graduated from Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario in 2006 with a Bachelor of Education degree and Ontario K-12 teaching credentials in Music and Drama. Throughout my career, I have earned additional certifications and teaching experience in PYP, MYP, and Orff music methodologies and Arts leadership. My passion for teaching the performing arts is driven by the transformative experience of cultivating musical play, practice, and performance opportunities for students, which nurture balance, perspective, and cultural understanding. The collaboration and improvisational skills that are woven throughout the creative process challenge learners of all ages to think in new ways and to see new possibilities in their work and within themselves. I am thrilled to be part of the SCIS teaching team along with my husband, David, who teaches MYP Language and Literature in the Upper School. In my spare time, I love creating music and performing with my husband and two young daughters, Mercedes and Ava, who are proud to be SCIS Dragons.
