Tuition & Fees

An investment in a culturally diverse, international education is an investment in your child’s future. As an SCIS student, your child will have access to individuals, ideas and experiences that are not typical of a traditional school environment.

all-inclusive tuition

SCIS is a non-profit educational day school, governed by a self-perpetuating board of directors and overseen by the International Schools Foundation. Although SCIS is a non-profit school, we do not receive any government or private funding, nor do we participate in any fundraising. SCIS is completely funded through student tuition and fees.

When considering the tuition of an international school, one thing all parents should ask themselves is, “What is included?” At SCIS, the answer is short and simple, “Everything. Our tuition is all-inclusive.”

What is included with tuition:

For families joining in fall semester, you will receive: one warm-weather “start-up” uniform set and one P.E. uniform
For families joining in the spring semester, you will receive: one cold-weather “start-up” uniform set and one P.E. uniform

  • School-sponsored after-school activities
  • All compulsory travel, including China Trips
  • A personal MacBook laptop for Grade 6-12

other Fees

One-Time Entrance Fees

Application Fee (RMB 2,500)
The application fee is non-refundable and payable when the student’s application is completed and submitted to the school for consideration. This fee is not applicable to other school fees but is valid for up to one academic year beyond the submitted application date. No application will be reviewed until this fee is paid in full.

Capital Fee (RMB 20,000)
The capital fee provides the needed funds for ongoing school facility enhancements, such as capital purchases, building maintenance, equipment and other projects aimed at school improvement. It is a one-time, non-refundable fee paid upon admission for all newly-enrolled students to SCIS. This fee is not applicable to other school fees.

Seat Guarantee Deposit

Seat Guarantee Deposit (RMB 20,000)
Upon acceptance or re-enrollment to SCIS, the seat guarantee deposit will secure your seat until the annual or semester tuition payment deadline. This deposit will be credited toward the first semester or annual tuition fee. The seat guarantee deposit is due for all current-returning families in mid-March of the preceding school year. For all new families, this deposit is due within ten working days of the offer of enrollment. Once the due date for the seat guarantee deposit or annual/semester tuition payment deadline has passed, the seat may be offered to other students in the wait pool or from our new applicant pool. A refund of the seat guarantee deposit will not be granted if the parent/guardian withdraws their child from school, or if the child is withdrawn due to academic, medical or behavioral concerns that inhibit their ability to remain enrolled in school.

Supplementary Program Fees

English as an Additional Language (EAL) Fee (RMB 10,000)
A one-time, non-refundable EAL fee will be charged to all non-native English-speaking students entering grades 1-10, and who will require additional English language support as determined by  the school. Upon enrollment, all non-native English-speaking students will be required to take an English language proficiency assessment in order to determine if EAL support is necessary. If a student meets SCIS’s English Learner definition, the student qualifies for EAL services. In most cases, this fee is charged pre-arrival, upon enrollment, and is based on criteria supported through the application materials. In some cases, this fee is charged post-arrival after the student’s English language proficiency is formally assessed. In all cases, students’ English language proficiency will be formally assessed upon arrival. This fee must be paid in full upon enrollment into the EAL program. Should the formal assessment results determine that the student’s English language proficiency is beyond the range for placement within our EAL program, the EAL Fee will be refunded in full.

IBDP Language A (other than Mandarin or English) Fee (RMB 8,000)
An annual, non-refundable fee will be charged to students in grades 11-12 who are enrolled in an IB Diploma Programme Language A Literature subject that requires instruction in languages other than Mandarin or English (i.e. French, Spanish, Korean, etc.).

Exam Fees
It is the parents’ responsibility to cover all external exam costs (i.e. SAT, ACT, IB, etc.) as these exams are not part of high school graduation requirements.

Tuition Discounts

Early Payment Discounts:
This payment option allows for up to a 7% discount on tuition fees only when annual tuition fees are paid in full by the following deadlines of the preceding school year. New families are eligible for this discount, but only if they have completed their application for admission before the published deadlines. If an offer of enrollment is sent after the deadlines, but the application was completed accordingly before, the family will have up to 10 working days to make the full payment and still be eligible for the early payment discount. Since the date of payment is determined by our bank’s acknowledgement, it is advisable to allow several lead days to avoid missing the deadline. This is an incentive for early payment, thus no deadline extensions will be granted.

Deadline Discount Applicable
March 9, 2018 7%
April 13, 2018 5%
May 11, 2018 3%

Payment Information

Payment of Tuition & Fees:
Enrollment is only secure once a payment has been made. There are two options for securing your enrollment:

  1. Payment of the annual or semester tuition fee in full
  2. Payment of the seat guarantee deposit to secure enrollment until the full annual or semester tuition fee payment is due.

Current families who wish to re-enroll for the next school year must follow the re-enrollment timeline to secure their enrollment, with the first payment (seat guarantee or full tuition) due in mid-March. New families must secure their enrollment through payment (seat guarantee or full tuition) within 10 working days of the offer of enrollment.

All tuition and fees must be paid before the student begins school. In order to support the best start for our students, classroom teachers must have at least three days notice prior to a student’s first day of attendance. If payment is made by US Dollar (USD), please use the USD exchange rate at the time of payment and add USD $40 to the total amount to cover bank clearance charges. If the payment is made by wire transfer, any bank charge will be the responsibility of the payer. If payments are made by credit or debit card, any transaction fee will be the responsibility of the payer.

Annual-Tuition Payment Deadline:
All tuition and fees must be paid in full by June 1. Choosing the annual tuition option provides additional cost savings.

Semester-Tuition Payment Deadline:
All first semester tuition and fees must be paid in full by June 1. All second semester tuition and fees must be paid in full by November 1.

Methods of payment:

  1. Fees may be paid by bank transfer (see further instructions below).

*Required if choosing Wire Transfer Payment Option
Because wire transfers often pass through several intermediate banks before they are deposited, the process may take several days to reach the SCIS account. It is often difficult and/or impossible to determine the student or family making the payment from the bank notice of deposit. To ensure that your payment through wire transfer is properly credited, please email SCIS a copy of your proof of remittance to: payment@scis-china.org. Please write your child’s full name, grade, and campus in the subject line of the email.
