As a member of the Association of China and Mongolian International Schools (ACAMIS), SCIS regularly participates in professional development conferences.

This year, SCIS had the honor to play host to the ACAMIS Spring Leadership Conference.

On March 1st and 2nd, 2019, our Hongqiao campus welcomed in over 500 educators and leadership professional from leading international schools across China and Mongolia.

This year, the conference’s theme of “Developing Agency in our Staff and Students” focused the learning lens on the impact that agency can have on both sides of the educational coin; our teachers and our students.

In education, agency is the ability of individuals to take ownership of learning through activities that are meaningful, relevant and interesting to them. When used correctly, it can be a strong tool to empower teachers and students to take charge of what, where, why, with whom and when they learn.

Presenters took to, both literal and classroom, stages to share their ideas and strategies surrounding agency in education with fellow professional educators.

The conference was a great opportunity for educational leaders to become aware of the recent trend in education. One where we will seek to shift the ownership of learning from the teacher to student.
