The evening of September 19th was a fun and memorable one as parents from both SCIS Hongqiao and Pudong campuses came together as one. In a first for SCIS, our Parents and Friends Association (PAFA) organized a joint parent social event, inviting community members from either side of the river to join.
Parent Social Night
Hosted at the beautiful venue of Kathleen’s Waitan on the South Bund, and with the picturesque Shanghai skyline as a backdrop, the evening was truly a huge success. As one parent put it, it was a “very elegant evening with great food, drinks, and the iconic Shanghai Bund view. It made for a perfect evening to mingle with other SCIS parents and administrators from both the SCIS Hongqiao and Pudong communities!”
This was a wonderful opportunity for parents and faculty from our two main campuses to meet and mingle for the first time. The Hongqiao and Pudong events team combined forces and worked diligently to organize a fantastic event. From custom-made WeChat invitations, a delicious food menu, and stylish wrist bands that doubled as unique identifiers for raffle prizes, every detail of the night was looked after. In the end, ticket sales exceeded initial expectations with 157 attendees attending altogether, representing administrators, PAFA board members, and parents.
A Joint Effort
One year in the making, the idea behind a joint Hongqiao-Pudong parent social originated from a conversation between our Head of School, Daniel Eschtruth, and our Hongqiao PAFA President, Lisa Chu. From then on, the planning process began between our two PAFA committees, led by Lisa Chu and Vanessa Thomas, Pudong PAFA President.
The overwhelming response from attendees was that these joint Hongqiao-Pudong parent socials, at such beautiful locations, should become a regular fixture on our calendar of events. As such, we can be sure to expect more of these wonderful connection opportunities in the near future!
