On the eve of the October break, SCIS had the honor to host former CNN news anchor, Ms. Sachi Koto, at our Hongqiao campus to come and present to our upper school student body.

Ms. Koto is an executive coach who had a successful career as an on-screen news anchor on CNN (Cable News Network) Headline News for 16-years and 9-years at JCTV (Japan Cable Television Network) – CNN’s affiliate station in Tokyo, Japan.

Presenting to a packed house, Ms. Koto opened up about her pathway through a changing world over the past 50 years and the key learning experiences she picked up along the way.

Her hour-long presentation, appropriately titled: “Finding Myself and My Purpose through Public Speaking”, touched on her own experiences growing up, battling and overcoming discrimination early on and how her struggles helped mold her into the confident public speaker she is today.

As a third-generation Japanese American, she prides herself on the legacy passed on by her parents who were farmers, often citing how their work ethic served as a model for how she learned to be a citizen of the world.

Since her retirement from being an on-air anchor, she now runs her own communications company, Sachi Koto Communications, LLC, and also dedicates her time to aid and support school children by giving speeches to educational institutions across the globe

Our students appreciated hearing her story and learning valuable insights into what it takes to achieve success. It was truly a pleasure welcoming Ms. Koto to SCIS and wish her continued success.
