- Language Acquisition
As the new school term begins, Shanghai Community International School (SCIS) celebrated the Mid-Autumn Festival — a festival of reunion and harmony deeply rooted in Chinese culture. Our three campuses across different grades hosted a range of engaging activities. Through these experiences, students not only celebrated a cherished festival but also gained meaningful insights through experiential learning.
A Perfect Blend of Tradition and Creativity
Our Mid-Autumn Festival celebration featured a variety of activities designed to both educate and inspire students.
Cultural Exploration
Young learners delved into traditional Mid-Autumn stories, such as The Legend of Mid-Autumn Festival and classic poems, uncovering the profound philosophies and emotions embedded in these cultural treasures. They participated in lantern riddle games, which added excitement and intellectual challenge to the festivities.
Creative Hands-On Workshops
We arranged vibrant hands-on activities, including crafting colorful rabbit lanterns from paper and bamboo, decorating traditional fans with moon and Jade Rabbit designs, and painting unique motifs. Our little Dragons at ECE also delved into the culinary tradition by making and personalizing mooncakes. These creative workshops allowed our children to express their artistic talents.
Cultural Diversity
At SCIS, we emphasize the importance of learning and respecting our host nation’s language and culture. Our Mandarin program supports students from all levels, recognizing and catering to diverse learning needs. The Mid-Autumn celebration was instrumental in enhancing students' connection to our host culture. By engaging with these traditions, we honor cultural heritage and prepare them for a globalized world, highlighting the importance of cultural awareness and respect.
