In October, Shanghai Community International School (SCIS) Pudong transformed into a vibrant hub of cultural celebration with its very first Cultural Festival, a spectacular event that united our diverse community in a joyful showcase of traditions. Organized by the dedicated team of the Parent and Friends Association (PAFA) Pudong, this festival was a testament to the rich tapestry of cultures represented in our student body, highlighting the beauty and uniqueness of each heritage.

Families from 19 different countries, gathered for a day of fun and connection. Each country set up an engaging booth featuring two traditional games or activities, inviting both children and adults to immerse themselves in new experiences. With their “passports” in hand, children excitedly navigated from booth to booth, eagerly collecting stamps as they participated in these cultural activities. Completing their passport journeys was met with great anticipation, as each child was rewarded with a delightful surprise, making their adventure even more memorable!

The celebration was further enlivened by captivating traditional dance performances from our talented parents. Their vibrant displays brought an infectious energy to the atmosphere, allowing everyone to appreciate the artistic expressions of various cultures. From graceful movements to lively rhythms, the performances underscored the festival’s spirit of celebration and unity.

To enrich the experience, two colorful “piñatas” offered a delightful glimpse into Mexican traditions, capturing the imaginations of our young attendees. The joy of breaking open the piñatas, filled with treats and surprises, was a highlight that kept the laughter ringing throughout the day.

What made this event truly special was the palpable sense of community that filled the air. Families came together, sharing stories, laughter, and a sense of belonging that highlighted the collaborative spirit defining SCIS Pudong. The enthusiasm and support from everyone involved made the event not only a success but also a heartfelt reminder of the warmth and resilience of our multicultural family.
