- China Host Culture
- Community
As we usher in the Chinese New Year, celebrations have unfolded across our campuses in their own unique ways. These events have provided the SCIS community with an opportunity to connect, reflect, and embrace the traditions that make this time of year so special.
SCIS Hongqiao ECE: A Festive Journey of Culture and Creativity
At SCIS Hongqiao ECE, Chinese New Year was celebrated with a series of creative activities. Nursery & Preschool students enjoyed performances like the Nianshou Monster show, creating firecrackers with popcorn, and jumping for red envelopes in the Dragon Jump. Students also engaged in activities like hanging Chunlian (Spring Festival couplets) and 福 (Fu) symbols. Pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten & Grade 1 students made sugar-coated haws, practiced Chinese calligraphy, created red envelopes, and shaped clay figurines. There were moments of joy and excitement, bringing both culture and creativity together.

Temple Fair Celebrations at SCIS Hongqiao & Pudong
At SCIS Hongqiao’s Temple Fair, students and families engaged in traditional crafts, such as Chinese knot-making, paper cutting, and block printing, while tasting delicious treats like Chinese Jianbing, jiaozi, and caramel fruit skewers. The excitement continued with the Chinese puppet show and festive face painting, adding to the joyful atmosphere that brought the community together in celebration.
At SCIS Pudong, we began the festivities with an assembly featuring performances like energetic drumming, dragon dances, and captivating acts by folk artists. Students were impressed with Shanghainese rhymes and Wudang Qigong, while parents added joy with lively performances. The Temple Fair followed, with 12 zodiac-themed stalls where students took part in a scavenger hunt, uncovering fascinating aspects of Chinese culture. New additions, including rubbing prints and bamboo lantern weaving stations, provided fresh ways to explore traditions. Throughout the day, PAFA's support was integral in making these activities come to life, including a special brunch for parents with traditional dishes and interactive games that brought families together in festive cheer.
Celebrating Host Culture, Learning, and Community
As our celebrations come to a close, we reflect on the importance of honoring our host culture and embracing the diverse traditions it offers. These celebrations not only allowed us to explore the richness of Chinese culture but also provided an opportunity for our community to engage in meaningful learning and connection. Through this shared celebration, we continue to strengthen our commitment to fostering global perspectives, creativity, and respect.
Moving into the Year of the Snake, we wish everyone a prosperous and joyful year ahead. May this new year bring you good fortune, happiness, and good health. 新春快乐 (Xīnchūn kuàilè)!
