Hello, my name is Peter Valerio and I was born in a small town just outside of Albany in upstate New York. From a very young age, I was drawn to mathematics, both for its own intrinsic beauty and also for the way it can help us to describe the world we see. It allows us to see connections between systems and processes that shouldn’t be connected. That’s so cool. It’s not surprising that I spent the years after high school studying Mathematics and Physics, earning a B.S. in Mathematics and Physics at Union College in Schenectady, New York and a M.S. and Ph.D. in Physics at the University of Arizona in Tucson, Arizona. For the last two decades, I’ve been teaching grade 9 to grade 12 Mathematics at independent schools in the USA and an international school in South Korea. Here at SCIS, I’ll be teaching MYP 9 and MYP 10 extended, as well as the DP HL Maths. I’m very excited about living in a city as vibrant as Shanghai and teaching in a community as warm as what I see here at SCIS.
