SCHOOL COUNSELING
Meeting unique learning needs

The emotional wellbeing of a child plays a vital role in their capacity to engage in learning. As such, SCIS prioritizes the social-emotional wellbeing of our students.

Our school counselors work closely with students, teachers, and parents to create a well-balanced and supportive school environment. They work with classroom teachers to help students transition into SCIS effectively through a buddy system, they work to build the social dimension of the classroom through team-building exercises and teach lessons that promote health, social, and emotional development.

Furthermore, counselors are there to assist students so that each learner has effective and developmentally appropriate tools for communicating, making decisions and developing, and maintaining friendships.

Common issues where school counselors provide support include:
  • Conflict resolution
  • Peer problems
  • Transition struggles
  • Study and organizational skills
  • Conflicts at home
  • Crisis or grief response

SCIS counseling services are meant to provide short-term support focused on immediate improvement. If extended support is needed, or services cannot adequately be provided at school, our counselors will assist our families in locating appropriate help in Shanghai.
